Early Release Day
CP10: In class discussed chapter 1 of Hunger Games, focusing on day-to-day rules in District 12, and Panem in general (those that we could figure out, at least). We then discussed the breaking of rules, and how that spoke to the idea of human nature winning out over dystopian ideals. We followed this by beginning the "Rules are Meant to be Broken... Right?" activity in our Tribute pairs. This is linked on the blog.
Homework: Finish "Rules are Meant to be Broken... Right?"
H10: We spent class testing out various ways of marking the text both on paper and digitally, looking for ELT's (Essential Learning Targets). This gave us the chance to discuss briefly some of the concepts covered by those ELT's, but largely we used today to figure out how we might move forward marking the text as we read. Thanks again, everyone, for helping me with this. I really appreciate it.
Homework: None, unless you want to continue marking the ELT's for all of chapter 1.
AmLit: Much of class today was spent reviewing and realigning classroom expectations, and talking about reading strategies moving forward with Gatsby. Digital copies of the text have been provided, we talked about how certain apps (such as Notability) can be used to take notes as you read, and I projected Sparknotes as an example of online resources for the book that might help reading and comprehension. The end of class was used to play catch-up.
Homework: Catch-up.
