AmLit: I am sorry to be missing you today, but I am sick as can be, and trust me; you wouldn't want me here, anyhow! I have a less-than-thrilling but very important task for you today. Every year, SPHS requires students to take a common assessment (a shared assignment that every student in each grade must complete) in writing. For the 11th grade, the prompt is the same as the essay on the Common Application. I know that many of you have already written drafts of a potential college essay, and some of you might have plans that don't include college, but I want to kill two birds with one stone: your first draft will be completed today, on-demand, during sixty minutes of timed writing. After these have been scored, we will work with them together to create something more refined and polished that you can hopefully use in the future. Follow the directions in this document below (use the full 60 minutes to write or revise) and print your work when time is up.
After you finish the common assessment in writing, I have a short story for you to read that explores one possible future for our world after the apocalypse. This is a very different type of world than we will see in
The Road, which we will start reading next week, but I think you will find it interesting! Here are the links you will need:
We will discuss the story, and I will collect the answers to your questions when I see you next.
