Red Day - 10.22.12

AmLit: If you did not get a chance in class, please finish reading "The Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allen Poe. Come prepared to do some work with this story.

Also, please bring in an example of symbolism in action. This may be an image, a video, a book, a piece of art, an everyday item, or whatever you can find. Your example must show a deliberate (not accidental) use of symbolism; you can't show me a black cell phone and tell me it symbolizes the death of modern communication because it's black. On the other hand, if you find a short story where everyone carries black cell phones because communication is a skill that has been killed by technology, fabulous! Remember our definition:

  • Symbolism: When an image - visual or described - represents a deep, sometimes abstract idea or meaning.
